pic-22WALKING ACROSS AFRICA’s DRAWSTRING BRIDGES
PEACEFULLY vs. FEARFULLY
By Joyce Greene

After getting back to the United States from Africa, I took time to reflect on what I had just experienced. I and my late husband, Grafton Greene, visited Ghana, Accra, Kumasi, Koforidus and Cape Coast Castle. I sit back reminiscing about all the different experiences in Africa. I truly enjoyed ever moment of my trip. It was an experience of a life time.
My husband was a member of a choir that we were with touring the country. While there, the choir sang for the president of Ghana. We were thought of as celebrities. One of the places we visited while traveling, was the museum which had so much gold exposed that we could not have cameras with us. We also were escorted by guards all the way through the museum. Also, as we continued traveling we found out the hard way, that there are no speed limit in Africa and the pedestrians are not considered right when it comes down to walking in the roads. I was crossing the road and the bus driver grabbed me and pulled me back away from the road because the cars would hit me and keep on going. We went to the Market places afterward, where we purchased some Kenta cloth. My husband wanted to make a suit out of the Kenta cloth. It was an enjoyable vacation with my husband. As it has been said, enjoy your family and friends while you can.
The one part of my trip that I wanted to talk about today is my experience in crossing the African drawbridges. As you go across the drawbridges they get higher and higher and longer and longer.
So it is the same in life, when you find yourself climbing the success rope of life it is better to act as though you are in Africa crossing the rope bridges with many people coming behind you and with no way to go back. These rope bridges are hundreds of feet up in the air in the jungles of Africa
In discussing my trip with my sister we were talking about some of my pictures that I wanted to share with people. We spoke about how dramatic it was for me crossing the drawstring bridges. It took all the courage that I could muster up to make it through to the end of the continuous string of higher and longer bridges. At the time I was crossing the bridges, there were about 50 other people lined up coming behind me. No one realized how many bridges that we had to cross until we were finished. Only one person at a time could cross each bridge before the next person could start across. This would have many of us up in the tree platform together awaiting our turn to go across the next bridge. When we got to the first landing we felt good. When we got to the second landing we felt we had accomplished something. But, by the time we got to the third landing we became worried. We did not know how many more bridges that we had to cross and we could not go back because the line of people that was behind us was continuously coming forcing us to move to the next tree. Each draw bridge was about 200 feet long and hundreds of feet in the air from the forest floor. Also, we did not known which was worse, trying to go back, if we could or going forward. Also, the higher in the trees we went the more the tree landing on which we were standing on would sway. The tree must have been as wide as 15 feet across or as wide as the front of a tractor trailer hundreds of feet in the air.
I remember praying while I was on about the third tree landing, while waiting my turn to go on to the next draw bridge. I said to God that I did not know how I got into this situation, but I sure would be glad to get out of it. And I was not the only person that was praying, we all came on this walk together and now we were shaking in our boots
But it is always good to have God on your side because if you can remember some of the scriptures, they will comfort you. One such scripture is: James 1:2-4 2. Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3. because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything,
In looking back, the funniest thing about the whole adventure is that we were so glad we went and had the experience and were able to share it with others afterwards. Now, if I had to do it again I would at least know what to expect and could even give advice to others that are getting ready to go on that same journey. To make a difference in other’s live you must be able to make a difference in your own life first.
You go through miles stones when you experience things, but if you could be prepared for them by having a mentor that could give you some advice before your adventure, you may be able to relax and enjoy yourself during your experience. This would allow you to learn and grow more with your experience vs. praying to get finished quickly.
At times I think about the excellent preparation of two mentors that I follow. Mrs. Bunmi Moore and Mr. Andre Vaughn with Financial Destination. They give you excellent training in preparation in network marketing. I thought that if someone had prepared me for my experience on the African bridges, I may have absorbed a little more of the process. Even though when looking back I enjoyed every moment
In conclusion, this is a comparison of an experience of not being prepared for what is to take place vs. being prepared. The difference is a peaceful learning experience vs. a fearful learning experience that you can only look back at to think about after it is over. I hope sharing this with you will give you some insight on getting prepared for life even if you need to find good mentors. This will benefit you in whatever direction you choose to go in life.
